Walking by the side of the road to the nearby Town, Kaelyn pondered why the old lady had been so nice to her. From what the old lady had told her of her life, her husband had been killed by a pokemorph, though the reason was unknown and even the details shady. Kaelyn wanted to know why on Earth the lady would be nice to a pokemorph, especially since the death of her husband seemed to come from it.
Perhaps she realizes that time will not change fate and her mate will still be gone. She has learned to accept the facts and move on in life. Perhaps you should do the same, Kaelyn. Lucifer said, walking beside his other soul half. Kaelyn looked at her daemon, an Absol who looked like he’d been in the fight of his life and wondered out loud, “But how can I?”
Up ahead, the sun dipped below a hill as Kaelyn and her daemon descended the first side of that same hill. Kaelyn echoed the question in her mind, turning it over and over, trying not to remember what had put her in this situation in the first place. Around them, pokemon twittered, tweeted, and called to one another, seemingly unconcerned with the ways of life as Kaelyn knew them. Her ears continuously swiveled, catching all the sounds and rustlings as the pokemon moved about. They seemed so at peace and yet Kaelyn was still desperately trying to swim out of the bottom of a whirlpool.
Finally reaching the top of the hill, the sun nearly blinded Kaelyn and she had to shield her eyes with a hand. Far down below, lay the quiet Town of……..Kaelyn didn’t know the name of the Town. Various houses lay scattered about the area and as Kaelyn studied the Town, three buildings jumped out at her for their stark contrast to all the little houses. The first building had a blue roof, as opposed to most of the reddish and other dull colored roofs. It was slightly bigger than most of the other buildings and was clearly a two-story building. There were no markings on it to tell Kaelyn what the building was. I guess I’ll have to find that building to figure out what it is…. Kaelyn thought as her eyes swept to the next building.
This one had a red roof, but it was much brighter than the other reds, and had a ball on the edge of the building’s roof, where the entrance should be . Half the ball was the same bright red, the other half was sparkling white. It looked like it also had a white button in the middle. Kaelyn recognized the scaled-up version of the item; she had learned it in class. It was a pokeball, and from what she had learned from her teacher, the building was a Pokemon Center and there was supposed to one in every Town.
Moving to the last building that had caught her attention for being different, Kaelyn was puzzled. It was a pure white building that glinted in the sunlight. Many windows on its two large floors reflected the sunlight and made it almost impossible to look at. From what Kaelyn could see, there were two giant doors facing west, toward her. Other than that, and the sheer size of the building, Kaelyn couldn’t identify it.
“I guess we’ll go there first, Lucifer. It looks like a pretty important building to me.” Lucifer gave what could have been a smile, in Absol terms, and nodded. I believe that building may be the professor’s Lab the old lady mentioned. We should go there to see if he can help us. I think a journey would be soothing for you, Kaelyn. I believe it will help us regain what we lost. Lucifer didn’t say family out loud, but they both knew that was what he had been about to say. Kaelyn shook as the thought of her parents’ last memories ran through her head. She didn’t want those memories, but they came anyway. Afraid that she would collapse again, Lucifer pressed his body against hers and she grabbed the fur and his back to keep herself steady. A few moments passed and Kaelyn took in a deep ragged breath. She looked up again at the bright sun and started moving forward. She clung to her daemon as he helped maneuver her down the hill. A little more than halfway down, Kaelyn regained her senses and she slowly let go of Lucifer’s fur. Kaelyn shivered once and then she was a little better. Together, the two made their way down to the Town.
Meandering through the small town was easy, as the bright building could be seen from all corners of the Town. Reaching the tall building at last, Kaelyn looked at the immense size; it looked even bigger when she was standing right in front of it. Looking at the doors, Kaelyn couldn’t really see a doorknob or anything else she could use to open the doors. Knocking would be nice, Kaelyn Lucifer reminded her. Kaelyn half-grinned sheepishly at Lucifer and raised her hand to knock. As soon as her hand touched the door, it slid open to both sides and a rush of cold air slammed into the two of them. Kaelyn looked at Lucifer nervously and the Absol daemon nodded, moving first and leading the way. Once her eyes had adjusted to the lights inside the building, Kaelyn looked around. Scattered all around them, were various machines that apparently did something. Some occasionally beeped and some continuously hummed in the background. Some just sat still and made no noise that Kaelyn could pick up at all. They all looked weird and Kaelyn didn’t want to touch them. Standing around the room, Kaelyn didn’t know what to do. So, they waited.
