It's run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible! This is an ex-forum!
While we're leaving the site up to keep all that happened here, this site is dead. We have moved! We're still going, with a number of changes, at a new location: enerarpg.proboards.com
This is Enera, a Pokémon roleplay where everyone has a dæmon like in the His Dark Materials Series.
After a long period of inactivity, we are back in action! Some major changes are being made right now, so bear with us as we sort out how the site will work, the setting and an all-new plot!
I've been working on a lot of stuff for the site. The new winter skin exists now! I'll be updating it with new images and possibly a different background, too ~Birdy
The Pokédex is slowly being updated. I've started working on profiles for all the NPCs as well, but pictures of them won't go up until my tablet stops having tantrums every time I open Photoshop. Oh, and I can't draw, that might be an issue. I'm working on a format for NPC PCs too, so that'll happen soon.
With the release of X and Y last month, the new Pokémon will be appearing around Enera now. I just need to update all the gym leaders and routes and stuff.
Remember to check out the X and Y giveaway!
Something is stirring in the North. Panserbørne, the great sentient armoured bears, are growing restless. Witches have been affected too by this mystery problem, and have been seen much further south than normal. One or two sightings have even been claimed in the northern most reached of Enera, but that can't be true, right? Witches are tough and hard to spook, so surely nothing would drive them out of their homes in the North?

The nights are drawing in, and the days grow colder, the leaves not quite ready to change colour yet. Cloudy days are common, the wind picking up. It is not cold yet, but rain is becoming more common. Pokémon are starting to prepare for the winter.
APPEARANCE Jonathan Pine is not the tallest man out there, standing at 5' 9". He maintains good posture in an attempt to make himself look taller. His build is slight and scrawny, making him look too weedy for the field work he so happily takes part in. The light tan covering his skin is evident of this field work; he can spend days outside, sometimes weeks, researching Pokémon development in as many scenarios as possible. He has slight muscle, mostly relying on his Pokémon for any physical work. His shoulders are surprisingly broad despite his thin stature, making an ideal perch for his dæmon.
His face is a kindly one almost always bearing a smile. It is oval shaped, with a strong jaw and square chin. He is not especially handsome, but he looks gentle and friendly. Warm blue eyes look at the world with great curiosity behind a pair of dark blue-framed rectangular glasses, simple in design. He is short-sighted, the lenses he needs on the weak side.
A mop of thick light brown hair sprouts from his scalp. It is on the long side and has a habit of sticking up all over the place, getting itself in tangles as easily and inexplicably as the wires for headphones left in a coat pocket.
Jonathan is incredibly informal in the way he dresses, preferring to remain casual. Sometimes too casual. He has been known to open the door in his pajamas. Most of the time he wears jeans with T-Shirts and hoodies or jackets with science-related puns on them. His shoes are usually tatty old converse. He'll only wear a labcoat if he's doing an experiment. When he needs to be formal, he will wear a suit and tie. During field work, he opts for his regular attire with a raincoat, hat, gloves, etc depending on the weather and location.
NAME: Jonathan Alfred Pine AGE: 34 BIRTHDAY: 15th June GENDER: Male SEXUALITY: Heterosexual SPECIES: Human OCCUPATION: Scientist: Studies Pokémon development, but also dabbles in other fields like Pokémon behavior and relationships. Gives out starter Pokémon to anyone unless he deems it unsafe for either Pokémon or person. ALLIANCES: Pokémon League, Pine Laboratories, science. General good guy.
PERSONALITY As one might expect from the man chosen to give out starter Pokémon to new trainers, Jonathan is incredibly friendly and welcoming. He is a kind and gentle person, making new friends easily. His natural liking for meeting new people makes him well suited to his job. He is adaptable to different people, so can change how he acts depending on how comfortable the person is with his usual happy, energetic self.
He does not fit into any general 'scientist' stereotype. By this I mean he is extroverted and not especially eccentric. He still gets excited about science, but not so much in a mad scientist way, but just in that he loves his work. This gives him a lot of energy, making him quite an overwhelming person to be around. Being around him for a long time can be exhausting for some people. The energy he has stems from his happy outlook on life. Optimism comes naturally to him.
All in all, Jonathan is relaxed and outgoing. It's pretty hard to offend him or make him angry. In fact, he tends to be all but oblivious to any insults you might throw his way. He is incredibly calm and laid-back, not letting anything bother him much. Of course, sometimes this means he will ignore something he shouldn't, but on the whole this attitude works well for him.
Jonathan is easily distracted, and once distracted, will focus on that distraction for long periods of time. He is frequently late or unprepared as he will be absorbed by something else. He is not very reliable in terms of punctuality, and will often open the door to new trainers or colleagues while he is dealing with a Pokémon, or eating lunch, having completely forgotten they were coming at all. Frequently he resolves to be more organised, but this has not happened yet. Nice as he is, he cannot be relied upon to know when or where anything is, or where he should be.
HISTORY Jonathan is native to the Enera region, born in Filla City to his parents Alice and Thomas, their dæmons being Piper (a Rufflet) and Lenora (a Swellow) respectively. He was an only child, and so received a lot more of his parents' attention than he may have done otherwise. He was interested in science from a young age, drawn into the subject mostly by his mother. Neither of his parents were scientists themselves, both working in computing, but they both understood it well, especially his mother.
Alice would take her son to watch the Starly migrate through the town every year, pointing out their actions. Jonathan was incredibly keen on the birds, wanting to know why they flew so far every year and how they knew exactly where to go. His mother could not answer all of the child's questions, so would take him to the library or various museums. Among his favourite museums were one of the larger Starly-based museums that had gathered in the town to attract tourists that came to see the Starly migrations and the natural history museum. At first he had been creeped out by all the dead things, but later he found it interesting to see so many different kinds of animals and Pokémon even if they were dead. There were loads of subtle differences within breeds and species of each sort of Pokémon.
Like a lot of people in Filla, the Pine family had a pet Starly. His name was Salph, after the star of the same name. Jonathan was close to him, and grew more caring about Pokémon because of him. He was a gentle and affectionate creature who's heart could be won easily through a few snacks. When the poor thing died after a few years, Jonathan was twelve and was so upset he shut himself in his room for three days.
Throughout his school life, he focused mostly on scientific subjects. At the age of fifteen, the local Professor entrusted him with a Riolu, whom he named Roy. The two grew close, and Roy became strong but the pair were never tempted to go on a journey. Jonathan went on to read Biology at university in Firaka, Roy evolving after being given a Heart Scale by Jonathan's parents as a thank-you for his support. When visiting a lake to research for a project, he found a curious young Mantyke who asked to join him. She followed him back, and he bought a Pokéball so he could catch her. He named her Amphitrite after the Greek sea goddess. He graduated with a master's degree at twenty-two, then went on to do a PhD, which he completed at the age of twenty-five. He was primarily studying Pokémon development at this point, and a year after getting his PhD published a well-received paper on development in different forms of young Pokémon, using the Shellos of the Sinnoh region as an example. He moved back to Filla to study the Starly for a time, publishing half a dozen more papers in the years that followed.
During these years, he caught, trained and evolved the remainder of his six Pokémon. He found Arthur the Arcanine as a Growlithe who followed him around a volcano. Amphitrite evolved shortly after. Arachne (Ari for short) the Joltik was rescued from a group of violent Pokémon in a cave Jonathan was studying. He wasn't supposed to catch her and got into trouble for it, but she was too weak to stand up to the other Pokémon. She has since become just as strong as his other Pokémon, but refused to evolve. Nadia the Armaldo was given to him as an Anorith by a scientist who was studying the newly developed techniques of reviving fossils. The same scientist also offered Arthur a Fire Stone, and he evolved into an Arcanine. A group of Noivern attacked Jonathan and a co-worker in the field once, and his Pokémon were able to defend him. Nadia evolved in the process. He caught one, intending to try conditioning it not to attack people since they were dangerously close to a town, but he returned to him after he tried to release him, so he kept him and named him Garth.
By the age of thirty-two, Dr Pine was a promising academic. He had published many papers and was making a name for himself. On the recommendation of Professor Oak, a man Jonathan had met on a few occasions and admired greatly, his old university and the Pokémon League offered him a post as a Professor in Priono, where he would be given use of the laboratory there which had now fallen into disuse so long as he agreed to give out starter Pokémon to new trainers and register them. He was overjoyed at this opportunity, and took it almost without thinking. The lab was given his name and refurbished to suit his uses.
Excited to move in, Jonathan bought a small house near his new lab before the refurbishments had finished, much to the complaints of his dæmon Telepa. He spent the next couple of months doing the best he could in the building while construction took place, hiring a couple of lab assistants. He started giving out starter Pokémon, something he found he loved, and took care of the Pokémon sent to him through the PC system well. Despite showing little interest in romance so far in his life, he did meet a woman named Rose, two years his junior, and the two did end up dating. They are not the regular cute couple, taking things slower as neither of them are 'lovey-dovey' in the slightest. This relationship is not something he talks about since he doesn't think there's much point in talking about it, but they are considering moving in and perhaps even getting married if they're still going strong in a few years.
APPEARANCE Telepa is much smaller than a normal Noctowl. She is a little over three foot tall, small enough to comfortably perch on Jonathan's shoulder. She prefers the right shoulder over the left. Usually this is where she will sit if her human is moving around a lot, otherwise she will find somewhere else to perch. She doesn't usually stand on the ground, preferring somewhere higher. If Jonathan is walking further than just pacing around a room, she will fly alongside him on their way, often soaring higher to get a better view or just to feel the wind through her feathers.
Other than her size, Telepa resembles a normal Noctowl. Her feathers are thin, soft and silent. Having a beak makes it hard to smile, and the large angular tufts on her head make her expression look even more stern. She generally looks quite bored at the world. The kindness in her human's face is not present in hers, although she doesn't look entirely unwelcoming.
dæmon image 148 x 306px
PERSONALITY Telepa is as serious as Jonathan is happy and excitable. She will always remain calm and handle and situation with utmost care. Everything has to be done properly. This clashes with Jonathan's ideas of doing things any old way so long as the outcome is acceptable; she scolds him a lot for using the wrong method. This helps keep Jonathan on track and focused if he ever strays from something important.
She is also a lot less welcoming of strangers. True, she does not mind them, but it can irritate her when some rookie comes poking around their lab without a clue. She tends to not find them so interesting, making her boredom clear. When she does get excited, however, it's still pretty hard to tell since she does act so serious all the time, so sometimes she may look bored but actually be paying close attention.
Like her human, Telepa is very intelligent. She acts it more than he does. One merely has to look at her to see she is smart, and she does not tend to show off about it - it's just quite obvious. The way she acts more sensibly and less clumsily make her seem more intelligent that Jonathan, when in actuality they are of the same intellect. She is always willing to help out someone if they ask a question, however distant she may seem.
NAME: Telepa Pine GENDER: Female FORM: Noctowl AGE SETTLED: 18 VIEWS ON FORM: They are both quite pleased with Telepa's form. Initially Jonathan wanted something less serious, but over time he grew to like a Noctowl form. Telepa likes that it makes their intelligence clear, and also likes being able to fly. They both are pleased that she can perch on his shoulder, since that closeness is comforting to them both. There are times when Jonathan still does wish she had a form representing a more laid-back and happy personality, but he accepts that this is at least partially what he is really like.
EXTRAS Professor Pine is the man who gives out starter Pokémon and registers new trainers, coordinators and breeders. As such, he is met by just about everyone at the start of their journey.

Guest_Kaelyn: Alrighty. I hope you haven't forgotten me, Birdy. ^^() Ok. I'll keep that new url in mind. And I understand. The link you have there doesn't connect to anything. Perhaps you could send it to me via pm or something so that I can get it---

Guest_Kaelyn: Orr.... just a new skin and stuff? It looks great, though, guys.

Guest_Kaelyn: Ok... I googled Enera cause I was on my work computer and came up with this. 0.o Did the site move, Birdy? Also, I am so sorry for the long absence. I hope you'll forgive me? What's been happening?
Jan 27, 2014 13:17:44 GMT -5
Rin: Alright, I will then It'll probably take me a couple days.
Dec 29, 2013 22:30:39 GMT -5
Birdybot: Yeah, go ahead ^_^
Dec 29, 2013 5:25:01 GMT -5
Rin: Cool beans, I made an account there. Should I just transfer all my PC stuff and character data / route stuff over?
Dec 28, 2013 22:35:53 GMT -5
Birdybot: All right! I've worked on a few templates and planned everything out, so now I've created the new forum! enerarpg.proboards.com/
Dec 23, 2013 7:51:22 GMT -5
Rin: I do like the visiting towns idea - that way players could get to plot more easily and characters could meet up, which would be cool to see more of
Dec 23, 2013 3:02:40 GMT -5
Birdybot: I think to make it easier for characters to meet, any town can be visited at any time (by train etc), but the gyms will still have to be done in order. Also I was thinking of letting people buy apartments/houses in any town if they want
Dec 17, 2013 18:27:24 GMT -5
Birdybot: Yeah, characters would be transferred over. It's a big change, but I think big changes are needed to revive this site and moving is the cleanest way to do that
Dec 17, 2013 18:24:19 GMT -5
Rin: Whoa, that's a pretty big change Would we be allowed to carry over characters? I'd like to keep Ajax at his current progress if possible...I do agree about the fakedex thing though, that's pretty outdated at this point, and people can always resubmit.
Dec 17, 2013 17:34:15 GMT -5
Birdybot: Yeah anyway so over this weekend I'll get a new site set up with new everything and it'll maybe look OK but no promises
