♈KHERA
Khera looked around, one ear pricked as if listening. Frowning, he consulted the map in his hand, rotating it 180 degrees and staring hard. They'd gone right past the big tree and... well, ended up in a small field that looked almost if not exactly quite like all the other small fields they'd passed in the last hour. Lifting the map up and squinting in the hope that would have some effect (which it didn't) he sighed, toying with the edge. Eira peered over his shoulder.
We're lost, aren't we? Khera glanced up at her, shaking his head.
No. We're just... taking the scenic route. Yeah, that's right. Folding the map up and placing it in his pocket, he cast his gaze around. Isn't this scenic?
Eira laughed. Oh, come on, papa. We are absolutely definitely lost, right? Lowering herself unsteadily down Khera's arm, she took a tumble, and Khera caught her gently, placing her on the ground. She windmilled her arms, trying to regain her balance, before looking around.
Hmm... this is a nice, open area. Deciding standing was too much effort she sat down, running her hands through the grass. Khera nodded. You see, scenic.
No, not in that way, silly. She drew her knees up to her chest. I mean, we could get some training in. You know, some battle practise. I guess we've had a little practise, but neither of us know much about it, right? She regarded Khera with her sparkling ruby eyes, grinning and tilting her head. So this is the perfect time. Come on, come on! She jumped up, suddenly full of energy. Let everyone out. Oh, I call dibs on first!
A faint smile on his lips despite himself, Khera took two Pokéballs from his waist, opening them. Two shapes solidated on the ground, one much smaller than the other. The Electrike, Tomodori, sniffed the air before sitting down and scratching behind his ear animatedly; Ixchel looked around, steely gaze landing on Khera, who returned it unflinchingly.
< What are we doing here? > Her tail lashed back and forth behind her. < I can see nothing of interest. >
< Eira proposed some training. Battle practise, if you will. I think it's an excellent idea. > He clapped his hands together. Tomodori looked up, tongue lolling out hopefully. Ixchel did not take so well to the idea.
< You believe me to be of inferior strength? > She tossed her head, glaring daggers at Khera. < I shall not hold with such impudence. > Khera's face remained expressionless.
< You may be arrogant, but you are also young and inexperienced. You will have the same training as everyone. > He turned, leaving her brooding in indignant silence. < Eira, you said you want to go first?
[/b] > Eira nodded happily, clapping her hands. We're lost, aren't we? Khera glanced up at her, shaking his head.

< Absolutelyyyyy! > She did a little twirl, almost falling over. < I need to practise my moves first.[/b] >
Khera nodded, looking to Eira. < Alright. First, I want you to practise your Will-o-wisp attack. You know, the one with the small flame. We don't know much about it, so we'll be testing range and accuracy. Power isn't so important at this stage, that'll improve with time.[/b] > Eira nodded, clapping her hands together. A small, flickering flame appeared between them, and she sent it hovering into the air.
Khera nodded. < Good. Now, I want to see how much control you have over it. Try to move it around a bit. > Eira concentrated hard, moving her hands. The flame rose, wavering slightly. She pushed her arms out and it shot off, dwindling and disappearing more than a few feet away from her. Khera shook his head.
< See, there you lost concentration. There's a balance between how far away you can put it and how fast it's moving. For contrast, go slowly and let's see what kind of range we can get.[/b] >
Eira cupped her hands, forming another flame. This time she moved her hands out slowly, guiding the attack gently outwards. Khera watched as it went ten feet, twenty feet, still burning strong. At a little under thirty feet Eira gave a small sigh and lowered her hands, and the flame flickered out. < How was that, papa?[/b] > She turned to him, face lighting up hopefully, and he knelt down, patting her head. < That was excellent. Now that we know your range, we can work on control a bit more. >
Eira went for a different approach this time. Going for a slightly smaller flame to help her control it, she sent it in a circle around her head, giggling to herself. It broke apart as she accidentally sent it to the ground, and she formed another one. Moving it faster, she made it zoom over to Khera, orbiting it around his head before it disappeared. Khera tilted his head, thinking.
< You're doing very well, but you need something to aid your concentration. If you're having problems, maybe just a stationary target isn't enough. We should try giving you a moving target and see if it helps.[/b] >
Stooping, he closed his fingers around a small stick. Catching his drift, Eira grew another will-o-wisp between her hands. Khera threw the stick up and Eira sent the flame at it. She misjudged it and the attack clipped the end of the stick, sending it into a downwards spiral. Khera whipped his hand out, catching it deftly. Pouting, Eira cupped her hands around another flame. < Come on, I nearly had it that time! Let's try it again. >
Khera threw the stick up again, and she sent the attack to it. This time it was bang-on target, and the flame burst against the stick. It fell to the ground, slightly singed, and Khera bent to pick it up.
< Okay, I think that's enough practise with that. After all, we know what we're working with now, and that's useful for future battles.[/b] > Eira clapped happily.
< You're good at this sort of thing, Khera. I will be unstoppable! Heheehee. > She turned around to Tomodori, patting him on the head. < Okay! Now it's your turn![/b] > Tomodori whined quietly.
< W-what? Me? Really? >
< Yeah! Come on, I'l sure you'll do great.[/b] > Eira gave him a little push forwards, and Khera waggled the stick in what he hoped was an enticing way. Tomodori seemed to perk up a little, trotting forwards.
< So, um, what exactly will I have to do for the training? > Khera tossed the stick up and down.
< Well, first I want to see what you can do; how fast you can go, and stuff. > Shaking the stick, he turned and threw it. < Fetch! >
Tomodori's eyes sparkled, and he gave a small yip, racing forwards at a surprising lick. Khera watched as he caught up with the stick and leapt to grab it between his jaws, before carrying it triumphantly back. He dropped it at Khera's feet, looking up at him haughtily.
< See, aren't I great? > Khera stooped and patted him, a little uncertainly, on the back of his neck. Tomodori's eyes shone. I see! He can be affectionate... I just need to prove to him I'm worth it. He wagged his tail. < Come on, come on! Throw it again! I can go faster, really! >
Khera tossed the stick again, this time a little faster, and Electrike bolted after it, his short legs pounding the dirt. Catching it without quite the same elegance as before, he skidded round and brought it back to Khera, who scratched him gently behind the ear.
< Alright. > Khera took the stick, thinking. < Your speed's probably your biggest asset at the moment, so we should capitalise on that. I want you to practise doing a running Tackle at that tree over there.[/b] > He pointed, and Tomodori's face fell.
< Really? It looks kind of... hard. Hard and painful. > He looked up at Khera, whining. Khera shrugged. < If you lower your head and charge properly, it can't be that bad.[/b] > He prodded the Electrike forwards.
Tomodori took up a stance, mumbling unhappily to himself, before setting off at a run. There wasn't as much 'oomph' as before, and he hit the tree at a slightly lackluster pace, splintering the bark slightly but not making a particularly noticeable impact. Khera shook his head. < Try it again.[/b] > Grudgingly, the Electrike turned round, running back at the tree and ramming it again. He staggered away, blinking hard. < Aahooh ooh ow.[/b] > He sat down, glaring plainitively at Khera. < Do I have to keep doing this?[/b] >
Khera was about to speak when Ralts piped up from near his ankles. < Come on, papa, give him a break. The Tackle looks good to me, how about the other attack he can use? We need to have, um, what's the word... oh, balance! We need to do balanced practise. Besides, you don't want his head to get too sore.[/b] >
Khera nodded. < Alright, then. That's enough, Tomodori. Let's work on Thunder Wave next.[/b] > The small dog gratefully came over, sitting at Khera's feet cautiously, like the boy was a bomb that could go off at any time.
< This one's a bit more straightforwards. We don't need a target for now, I just want you to gather static in your fur and then expell it.[/b] > Tomodori sighed, relaxing. Well, that wasn't so hard. Turning, he spread his legs, allowing static electricity to crackle through his fur, before sending it out in a burst. Bolts lanced through the air in front of him; gentle and not directly harmful, but they would paralyze an opponent if it hit. Khera looked pensive. < The trick with this is dispersing a small charge over a larger area. I think it'll work better if you build up a larger charge first. >
Tomodori nodded, seemingly slightly uncertain. He wasn't very good at amassing charge; hell, he couldn't even use any offensive electric moves yet. Still, he'd need to learn sometime. Trying again, he made the electricity well up in his fur, a sheet of static clinging to his limbs. He held it for a little longer before trying to push it outwards. It didn't quite work, and there was a bang and a crackle as a large bolt smashed the ground in front of him, a cloud of electricity rising from his back. He whined apologetically, and Khera knelt down.
< Alright, you need a little more practise, but it's fine for now. You'll get better control over your electric strikes as you go. You've done very well. > He stroked the Electrike gently, who huffed. Yeah, now Khera was being nice, after he'd made him run into a tree! It was hard to know what to think about the 'morph, really.
Khera then turned to the last Pokémon of his out, Ixchel, who glared owlishly at him. < Oh, and I suppose I need training now as well, do I? >
Khera's eyebrows lowered a little. In his terms, this was practically a sarcastic round of applause and perhaps a mocking laugh. < Look, you wish to retrieve your orb, do you not? By the looks of you, you've never fought in a battle before. If you want to get it back you'll have to get stronger.>
The logic of this was relatively poignant, and it took Ixchel a few tries to swallow the retort rising in her throat. Eventually she said, slightly hoarsely, < Very well. But don't get any ideas. >
< Of course not. > Khera seemed just a little smug - well, as smug as could be without the actual emotion of smugness. < Let's start out with something simple. Try your Scary Face attack; a slowed opponent is much easier to hit.[/b] >
Almost imperceptibly nodding, Ixchel drew herself up, letting her wings spread out. Dark tendrils seemed to leak out from them as they nearly doubled in size, flooding the air with shadows. Her eye sockets darkened, piercing red eyes glinting in their depths, and her beak-like jaw opened ever so slowly, revealing a mouth like dark tar. Khera seemed unimpressed. < Come on, more.[/b] > Tomodori was cowering behind his legs, previous rebelliousness forgotten in the face of huge scary demon dragon. Scowling, Ixchel leaned forwards. Her features seemed to run and flow into hideously contorted shapes, jaw opening impossibly wide. Her edges flickered, blurring into darkness, and she stretched her shadow out, feet eaten by a pool of black. To finish the ensemble, she lunged forwards, emitting a fearsome roar that shook the ground.
Khera didn't blink. < Excellent. Very scary, I'm sure. > Rather put out, Ixchel seemed to deflate a little, returning to normal. Tomodori was trying to make himself invisible. < Remember, you won't have long to prepare your attack in an actual battle, so try to focus on the most poignant effects. > He thought for a second. < Your other attack is Dragonbreath, isn't it? Your species is quite slow to learn new moves, if memory serves. It does give us more time to perfect each move, but maybe I should purchase a technical machine or something for you.[/b] > Ixchel tossed her head, making a 'hmph' noise. < Our kind live for hundreds of years. We grow slowly. Do about it what you will, 'tis not of my concern.[/b] >
Khera flicked his ears. < Regardless, I'm getting sidetracked. Next I'd like to see Dragonbreath.[/b] >
< Gladly.[/b] > Opening her jaws wide, Khera watched as blue and black flames grew between them, licking along her visor. Rearing back, she spat them out, scorching the ground at her feet. The stream ended after a few seconds though, and Ixchel leant back, panting slightly. Tomodori patted at the ground, looking up.
< Oh come on, it's only a bit warm. I could do better, I be...[/b] > Ixchel glared at him and he swiftly shut up.
< Alright. The coverage you're going for is good, but that cuts down on the power and the duration. > Khera had a quick think. < Do you think you can fire more concentrated blasts? Those might be more useful. >
< Of course.[/b] > Ixchel replied snootily. Taking a deep breath, she launched a fireball from her jaws. It wasn't quite as impressive, but seemed to be of a lot more substance, and Khera could feel the heat of it against his feet as it struck the ground. He nodded. < Excellent. Again! > Ixchel grew another fireball between her jaws, allowing it to swell before firing it against the ground. The dried grass burst into flames, flickering briefly before dying out.
Ixchel turned to Khera, looking slightly fatigued but proud. < See? How was that? > Khera nodded.
< Yes, very good. > It was hard to tell if he was being sincere, though, as his voice kept the same monotone level it always did. < You can tone it down a bit now, though, I'd like to practise a bit of accuracy and I don't want you to get worn out. > He brandished the stick, now looking slightly battered. < Try and hit this. Shooting your attacks at the ground is all well and good but impractical in a battle situation.[/b] > He threw it from hand to hand, before tossing it into the air.
Ixchel fired a rapid attack, a small gout of flame from her jaws. It just missed the stick, which spun downwards until Khera darted around and snatched it out of the air. He threw it out again, and Ixchel snapped at it disgruntledly, crushing it between her jaws. Flames leaked out the sides of her mouth for a few seconds before she dropped the twig, now burnt to a crisp, and snorted. Eira pouted.
< What was that for? >
< It was annoying me. > She growled, tip of her tail flicking angrily. < I'm bored of this excercise. Put me back in my Pokéball so I can finish my nap already.[/b] >
Khera tugged the Giratina's capsule off his belt, sucking her into it. Eira sighed. < Missus scary really doesn't want to play ball, does she? >
Scooping the Ralts up into his arms, Khera tipped his head to the side. < Apparently not. I think we all learned something, though, hmm? > He ticked Eira under the chin, and she giggled.
< Yeah. Alright! My amazing new battle skills tell me we need to go... > She pointed dramatically in a random direction.
< ...that's the way we came from before. >
< Don't patronise my genius, papa. >
