~Ahh, sweet sunshine,~ a sleek, creamy colored feline purred as she stretched and let out a yawn. She sat among five other young Pokemon, one of six having just been released out of their pokeballs in several bright flashes of eerie red lights. It was a very pleasant summer day, with a light breeze that blew over an open, grassy field; this was a sign that autumn was soon approaching. The sun, raised high in the sky, indicated that it was around noon. ~Instead of training today, I think I would be much happier taking a long, well deserved catnap,~ the Meowth added with another yawn.
A Mankey hopped back and forth on his short, yet powerful legs, clearly anxious for some exercise. He shot the Meowth a peculiar look. ~Figures, the laziest of the group would rather sit on her butt on a perfect day for training than actually pull her weight on this team,~ he scoffed.
Vex's comment earned him a hiss from the now annoyed Meowth. ~Says the pig-nosed beast,~ Amira spat. ~As one of the more civilized members of this team, I like to catch up on my beauty sleep. If you were pulling your own weight, then you would try getting some, too, so that maybe you wouldn't have as ugly a mug for us to have to look at all the time.~
The Mankey's eyes narrowed in anger and a snarl crossed his face, but it was soon replaced by an arrogant smirk. ~You would have to sleep for like ten years straight if you expected to see any improvement in that blindingly hideous mess you call a face,~ he replied confidently. Amira's fur began to bristle and she looked about ready to pounce.
~Woah oh, wouldn't wanna get in the middle of that cat fight,~ a mischievous-looking Murkrow cawed from where he sat watching the fight unfold between the two Pokemon, amusement lighting his bright red eyes. But before any real fighting could occur, an orange colored canine stepped between Vex and Amira.
“That's enough, you two,” the Growlithe daemon sighed. The tone of his voice mixed with the exhaustion in his eyes made it obvious that he had dealt with the Meowth and Mankey's bickering often. “Save the fighting for the battlefield.”
A chuckle could be heard from a few paces away. The source of it came from a young, blue haired trainer with brilliant sapphire eyes. Her clothes looked tattered and worn, and a somewhat inexperienced-looking Riolu sat on her shoulder. The belt of pokeballs wrapped around her waist was an obvious indicator that she was a Pokemon trainer. “Sorry to burst your bubble, Amira, but you'll be one of the ones training today. Vex, you'll be sitting on the sidelines for now.” Vex and Amira both took on a look of disappointment at their trainer's decision, but then simultaneously stuck their tongues out each other, each reveling in the other's despair. Another laugh escaped Lithalia's throat; the two Pokemon's constant teasing of each other never failed to make the young trainer smile. “Alright, first up is Amira versus Loki; both of you need the training for Silav's Gym.”
The Murkrow, Loki, gave a little hop as he stretched out his wings; he seemed excited to be able to battle someone. Amira, however, didn't look enthused one bit. “I'll take over giving commands to Loki. Alex, you can handle playing Amira's trainer for the battle, right?” Lith said, giving a look to her Daemon, Alexucard.
Vex scoffed from where he sat, arms crossed, under a shady tree. ~Have fun; that furball's more of a handful than she looks.~
Amira growled and opened her mouth to retort, but was prevented from speaking by a nudge from Alexucard, who gave a nod in Liths direction in confirmation to her question. Amira shot him a quick glare before unenthusiastically trudging after him as he made his way to the opposite end of the training field. Loki quickly flapped over to stand in front of his trainer, an excited gleam in his eye. ~I feel honored that I get to face the so-called princess of the group in battle, milady,~ he said, giving a mock bow.
~Stuff it, bird brain,~ was the Meowth's unamused response. Loki merely chuckled. In the meantime, an uninterested-looking Burmy waddled on thin, twiggy legs over to rest under the tree where Vex was sitting. Rikio, the Burmy, leaned against the thick trunk and gave what seemed like a nod in greeting to the pouting Mankey, who huffed in response. Following the Burmy was the newest member of Lith's team, an Electrike named Voltra. She quietly sat in the shade a bit aways from the two others, and watched the soon-to-be battle with curious eyes.
“Are you gonna watch the battle from up there on my shoulder, Blaedyn?” Lith asked the Riolu, still sitting on her shoulder, in a cheerful voice. After eliciting a large grin and an excited nod from the small puppy-like Pokemon, she giggled. Then, turning her attention back to the battlefield, she called, “Alright. Loki, Alex, Amira, you ready?” After seeing each of her partners nod in response, she gave a gave a satisfied grunt and took a battle-ready stance as a smirk crossed her face. “Then I'll start off. Loki, use Peck!” Loki, having a naturally mischievous nature, used to not listen to his trainer at all; he figured he was too good to be bossed around by such an inexperienced human. He's learned to respect her more with her past battles, though, which led to him to start obeying her orders more. The Murkrow launched himself into the air and with one strong push of his wings, thrust himself straight at Amira, sharp beak pointed forward.
Alexucard took on the same smirk as his human partner; he loved playing trainer like this. It was their usual style of training their team. “Jump back at the last second, Amira, then come down on him with a Scratch!” Amira blinked lazily. She really didn't want to battle right now, and even contemplated letting herself get beat up enough so she wouldn't have to fight, but quickly dismissed the thought a split second later. That wouldn't leave her looking too ladylike, now would it? No, she decided she'd better take this fight seriously. Besides, she would end up getting stronger from it anyways. She dodged at the last second – more like the last half second, having been distracted by her thoughts – just like her faux trainer had commanded. Then, barely missing a beat, she pushed herself downwards with sharp claws unsheathed.
Amira's claws scratched against Loki's back, eliciting a low screech of pain from the bird. He fell to the ground, but was able to recover quickly. His opponent smirked, her attack having gone without a hitch. Loki's eyes narrowed in response. “Loki, now use Pursuit!” Lith called out. The Murkrow shot at the feline surrounded with a dark colored aura in a Pursuit attack. A second later, his black feathered body collided with Amira's furry one, causing her to let out loud 'oof' as she tumbled backwards.
My turn again, the Growlithe Daemon thought to himself; he always got so caught up in the battle when he was able to be one of the ones calling the shots. Not too many Daemons probably get to do this sort of thing, he added too himself with a soft giggle. “Try a Fake Out on him this time!” Seeking revenge on Loki for her freshly bruised belly fueled the power of her next attack. She rushed at him as fast as her slender paws could carry her and launched forward with all her strength.
“Fly up to dodge it, Loki!” was Lith's next tactic. It came a little too late for him to be able escape all of Amira's wrath, however. Loki was able to fly up a bit and miss the brunt of the attack, but the Meowth was persistent in this particular pursuit; she jumped up before her opponent could fly completely out and range and grabbed onto his thin legs before dropping her weight and throwing him down to the ground in what seemed almost like a mock Seismic Toss. The Murkrow hit the ground with a loud thud and gave a hiss at the feline figure that loomed above him with a devilish smirk on her face. He could feel himself starting to get weaker. This cat's tougher than she looks, he thought wryly to himself.
Lithalia frowned slightly before giving a small smile. She didn't like seeing her Pokemon get hurt, even if it was just training; she knew it had to be done for them to reach their ultimate goal, though. Her expression lightened up into a playful smirk as she called, “Peck!” Loki's eyes lit up and the edges of his beak started to rise in a crooked smile. He thrust his beak forward, aiming right at Amira's head; at this close range, it was pretty hard to miss. Amira's eyes snapped shut as Loki's beak started repeatedly hitting her head. She jumped back quickly as a reflex, but not before a massive headache had appeared. Amira groaned in annoyance and shot both Loki and Lithalia a glare that looked more threatening than any of her attacks could have been. Her trainer gave her a sheepish smile and an apologetic look, while Loki's smirk merely widened. Her head felt like it was being hammered, and her morale along with her strength was starting to weaken.
Alex winced a bit; that Peck looked like it must have hurt pretty bad. He quickly shook it off, however; he needed to try to get Amira the win before she was down for the count. “Come on Amira, you can do it! Try a Bite attack!” he shouted with as much encouraging confidence as he could muster. It didn't seem to cheer Amira up on bit, though. With a low groan she started running halfheartedly at Loki to attempt to administer a Bite attack that didn't look very hard to dodge, or that it would even hurt that much if it hit.
“Ah, dodge it, Loki,” Lith called out, a little disheartened by Amira's sudden lack of effort. Maybe that Peck attack did more damage than it looked. Loki lazily flew upwards to easily get out of the way of Amira's so-called attack. She merely stood under him and stared upwards, an annoyed look on her face. She really wanted this to end soon. Lithalia frowned a bit before letting out a low chuckle. Amira could be such a diva sometimes, she mused to herself. Maybe she just needed a little push to get going again. “Now Loki, swoop down on her with another Pursuit!” The Murkrow followed his trainer's orders and dove straight down toward the unamused cat Pokemon waiting below him; however, his waning strength slowed down his speed.
“Amira, quick, use a Scratch attack to bat him away!” Amira smirked at this. Batting that annoying bird-brain right out of the sky sounded like fun; plus, hopefully there'd be enough power behind the attack to end this increasingly boring training battle. This thought along was able to give her a considerable amount of strength into the attack, and the second before she would have been hit by Loki she unsheathed her sharp claws again and swatted right across the Murkrow's chest, sending him to give a low cry before rolling on the ground in a mass of dark colored feathers. It was a few seconds later before he tried to get up again, and, when he did, he just ended up falling back to the ground. He wasn't completely knocked out yet, but it was obvious that he couldn't do much more battling anyways; besides, it was just a training round.
“Haha, that was great, you two!” Lithalia half cheered, half laughed as she ran over to the collapsed Murkrow. Blaedyn gave his own silent cheers to the two participants as Lith gently scooped Loki up into her arms and giving him a light hug. ''You did awesome, Loki. And you even listening to me this time!” she added with another giggle. Loki looked up at her with tired eyes, but there was a shimmer of something else there, too. At first he had detested the idea of becoming a trainer's Pokemon. But every time he sees the look of pride and cheer in this trainer's face and voice, he remembers that it doesn't seem that bad after all. Atleast, not with Lith. “And you did awesome too, Amira! It's been a while since I've seen you in battle,” the young trainer exclaimed as she looked up to the Meowth who blushed slightly from the praise, but purred nonetheless.
Loki gave a crooked smile before hopping onto his feet and turning towards Amira. ~Hah, I gotta admit, I did underestimate you a bit at first,~ he started, folding his wing to his chest in a real bow this time. ~But, that was a good battle. I can't wait to battle you in the future sometime.~
Amira just looked the bird over for a moment, as if trying to decide whether he was being sincere or not. Eventually, though, she let a soft smile come across her face. ~Thanks for the compliment. It was a pleasure training with you.~ Honestly, she found the Murkrow smug, annoying, and disrespectful; almost as much as the pig-nosed brat she loved to tease so much. But, she could see that Loki had a more civilized side, and she respected that about him.
“Lith's right; that was an awesome battle. You fought hard, Amira – for the most part at least – and earned the win. Congratulations!” Alex happily barked.
“Alright guys, I think it's time we took a lunch break before starting the next training round,” Lithalia hummed before starting to walk back towards the shady tree where her other three Pokemon were sitting; the Mankey, the Burmy, and the Electrike. She picked up a picnic basket that looked filled to the brim with various snacks and juice boxes. Everyone's eyes lit up and their mouths watered in response to the sight of food. Lith smiled. “So who's hungry?”
