It's run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible! This is an ex-forum!
While we're leaving the site up to keep all that happened here, this site is dead. We have moved! We're still going, with a number of changes, at a new location: enerarpg.proboards.com
This is Enera, a Pokémon roleplay where everyone has a dæmon like in the His Dark Materials Series.
After a long period of inactivity, we are back in action! Some major changes are being made right now, so bear with us as we sort out how the site will work, the setting and an all-new plot!
I've been working on a lot of stuff for the site. The new winter skin exists now! I'll be updating it with new images and possibly a different background, too ~Birdy
The Pokédex is slowly being updated. I've started working on profiles for all the NPCs as well, but pictures of them won't go up until my tablet stops having tantrums every time I open Photoshop. Oh, and I can't draw, that might be an issue. I'm working on a format for NPC PCs too, so that'll happen soon.
With the release of X and Y last month, the new Pokémon will be appearing around Enera now. I just need to update all the gym leaders and routes and stuff.
Remember to check out the X and Y giveaway!
Something is stirring in the North. Panserbørne, the great sentient armoured bears, are growing restless. Witches have been affected too by this mystery problem, and have been seen much further south than normal. One or two sightings have even been claimed in the northern most reached of Enera, but that can't be true, right? Witches are tough and hard to spook, so surely nothing would drive them out of their homes in the North?

The nights are drawing in, and the days grow colder, the leaves not quite ready to change colour yet. Cloudy days are common, the wind picking up. It is not cold yet, but rain is becoming more common. Pokémon are starting to prepare for the winter.
Hmm. I think that's a reasonable idea(focusing on the training) but the problem is that waffling is still definitely possible when focusing just on training. (Like someone could take an entire paragraph about how a Pokemon was straining to pick up a rock and "waffle" on and on about each muscle being strained from pinkie finger to little toe, lolz). Also, interaction a good outlet for creativity, so staunching that might not be the best? While the training threads in the past did get a little long winded, I did enjoy the option of being able to type a long post to train by myself if necessary though (and as I think we mentioned before, staff could post writing challenges/ideas to get people's creative juices flowing).
Anyway, I think the 2 paragraphs per level thing is fine, and we can probably just make a post that says "Please don't go on and on about one thing just to make your training post longer" and make some example posts or something. Most people are relatively reasonable.
Maybe to stop people writing for the sake of making their post longer, anything that looks like it is just there to increase the length and is otherwise pretty pointless could not count in the paragraph counting?
I don't really care how much money the items should be, as long as the amount of money we get per post or however the system works is proportional to that. I guess I would say it might be better to keep items similar to the games so it's easier for mods to look up prices.
I agree with Rin, the games do provide a good foundation for how we should gauge item prices on here. So if we assume a Pokeball is 200, we can either do the same on here or we can half the price depending on how much money we get per post.
So, say we get 50 per post, we could make a Pokeball 100, and just half the price of everything that's in the game for example? Or say we get 100 per post and make every item the same price as it is in the games. S'up to you really.

part of me wants to slide in and advocate we get rid of levels entirely. if I'm completely honest I've never been a fan of having more stats than necessary in text-based roleplaying, because it detracts from, well, the roleplaying. instead of level gains, maybe we could just give new moves or evolutions as rewards from battles or training sessions? or uh maybe a point system where you can buy new moves if you have x points (depending on how powerful the move is) and an evolution if you've spent y points I dunno just brainstorming ideas
Personally, I prefer the level system. It makes it easier to keep track of things, and eliminates any favouritism or unfairness which might potentially happen, because everything is set and anyone can look things up and know that x pokemon will evolve at x levels and will have y moves when it does and that you get z levels per fight. It means you can sit down and calculate things without needing to go and do a detailed read through of everyone's threads, and it means that there's no chance of favouritism with one person getting one thing and another person getting another thing from the same battle results and potential unhappiness or cries of unfair, because what you get is set and each person will get the same rewards for the same battle.
As it is, I would completely agree if we were going to add in stats or implement a move limit, but just having levels I think is a good thing for keeping track and making things fair. It also means we don't completely loose the feel of the games, which I think would be a sad thing to have happen.

see the calculating thing is where I think levels really fall short. this isn't an rpg like dungeons and dragons; I've always felt that levels just needlessly complicated things. I don't really see that favouritism would ever be an issue, to be honest? this isn't a competition. I just think the numbers take away from the writing and, well, the fun! if you want to replicate the games with levels and stats and strict movesets, why not just go actually play the games? but I'm aware it'd be a big change to how things are normally run around here, so if people would prefer to keep the level system...
I personally prefer the level system. Since we've cut out any other stats and move limits, they're all we really have to gauge how strong a Pokémon should be other than how many battles they've been through. They're more of a guideline than anything else as it is, there to give people an idea of how strong the Pokémon's attacks should be and so on rather than a set thing to calculate stuff from. It's also handy for stopping people getting too out of hand with how strong their Pokémon are, too.
Oh yeah, I also brainstormed more ideas for areas that you could find different types of Pokemon. I kinda just made up the names on the spot though so I’m sure there are better ideas out there XD
Hell’s Paradise – A wide, craggy area with a burning (coal?) mine underneath so fire shoots through the ground at random intervals and the whole area is filled with hot smoke. (Like above one of these: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_seam_fire) - Fire Types Catacombs - Ghost or Dark Types, would also have lots of riddles and puzzles. Abandoned Factory/Junkyard – Steel Types Power Plant/Crystal Cave – Electric Types (The flavor for the second idea would be that the crystals are charged with electricity and glow funky colors). Lake – Water Types Ghost Town/Abandoned Town – Fighting Types (would have sort of a gang theme, with the Fighting Pokemon running the town and squabbling amongst each other), would be out in the wilderness, perhaps at the base of a mountain Grimdark Glade – Dark Types, or a “lighter” named glade for Fairy Types when they come out. Ruins – All those Pokemon like Baltoy/Sigilyph/Bronzong, also would have lots of riddles and puzzles. Maybe Psychic types here too? Midsummer Meadow – Psychic Types or Normal Types. Or Fairy types when they come out. Ivy Garden – a gigantic garden with lots of flowers and trees, would have Bug types. (And some Grass types). Canyon – Rock or Ground types An island - ?? Moor - ?? Mushroom City - Not an actual city but an area with a lot of large and strange looking mushrooms. Not sure what type would be specialized here, Poison maybe?
Hell's Paradise - Yes! I'll definitely make this. Catacombs - Sounds like there could be some really creepy threads down there... depending on how the members feel about it, we could write some really scary threads there! Junkyard - I'm all for this. Crystal cave - we already have a power plant, so this seems like a better idea. Could have some technology-related Pokémon, and rock types too. Lake - Sure. Ghost town - Gangs of fighting types is an interesting idea! Grimdark glade - I think we have plenty of places for dark types. Ruins - Some ancient civilization, riddles, sounds like a place for physics. Midsummer Meadow - Psychic and normal could go here, and definitely fairy. Ivy Garden - There's a rainforest for bug and grass types, but we could have this for smaller Pokémon and to just relax in? Canyon - Good idea. Not sure about islands, but perhaps a moor or cliffs for Flying types? Mushroom City - This sounds like fun. Could get loads of decaying stuff and fungus, poison types would love it!
I was thinking that perhaps for the extra areas, people could have an option to not encounter wild Pokémon? So they just interact with other people rather than seeing Pokémon, if they want to.
Guest_Kaelyn: ---when I remember my password and get enough free time to do something? (hopefully)

Guest_Kaelyn: Alrighty. I hope you haven't forgotten me, Birdy. ^^() Ok. I'll keep that new url in mind. And I understand. The link you have there doesn't connect to anything. Perhaps you could send it to me via pm or something so that I can get it---

Birdybot: It's ready for RP but I'm still working on things before I want to start advertising
Jan 30, 2014 16:09:49 GMT -5
Birdybot: Hello! The promo will be up for a while longer
Jan 30, 2014 16:09:22 GMT -5
Guest_Kaelyn: and how long will the X/Y promo be for? I would love to get one... as soon as I remember my password....
Jan 27, 2014 13:24:40 GMT -5
Guest_Kaelyn: Darn.. I'm going to have to remember my password....... But I'm still here... If that matters. ^^()
Jan 27, 2014 13:22:56 GMT -5
Guest_Kaelyn: Orr.... just a new skin and stuff? It looks great, though, guys.
Jan 27, 2014 13:18:28 GMT -5
Guest_Kaelyn: Ok... I googled Enera cause I was on my work computer and came up with this. 0.o Did the site move, Birdy? Also, I am so sorry for the long absence. I hope you'll forgive me? What's been happening?
Jan 27, 2014 13:17:44 GMT -5
Rin: Alright, I will then It'll probably take me a couple days.
Dec 29, 2013 22:30:39 GMT -5
Birdybot: Yeah, go ahead ^_^
Dec 29, 2013 5:25:01 GMT -5
Rin: Cool beans, I made an account there. Should I just transfer all my PC stuff and character data / route stuff over?
Dec 28, 2013 22:35:53 GMT -5
Birdybot: All right! I've worked on a few templates and planned everything out, so now I've created the new forum! enerarpg.proboards.com/
Dec 23, 2013 7:51:22 GMT -5
Rin: I do like the visiting towns idea - that way players could get to plot more easily and characters could meet up, which would be cool to see more of
Dec 23, 2013 3:02:40 GMT -5
Birdybot: I think to make it easier for characters to meet, any town can be visited at any time (by train etc), but the gyms will still have to be done in order. Also I was thinking of letting people buy apartments/houses in any town if they want
Dec 17, 2013 18:27:24 GMT -5
Birdybot: Yeah, characters would be transferred over. It's a big change, but I think big changes are needed to revive this site and moving is the cleanest way to do that
Dec 17, 2013 18:24:19 GMT -5
Rin: Whoa, that's a pretty big change Would we be allowed to carry over characters? I'd like to keep Ajax at his current progress if possible...I do agree about the fakedex thing though, that's pretty outdated at this point, and people can always resubmit.
Dec 17, 2013 17:34:15 GMT -5
Birdybot: Yeah anyway so over this weekend I'll get a new site set up with new everything and it'll maybe look OK but no promises
